OK like I said last week, we had a big conference this past week and wow
that was so cool we had Elder Golden of the seventy, come down to tell
us about all the new world wide changes for missionaries! The real
big change was the key indicators, we use to have Investigators
baptized and confirmed, Investigators with a baptismal date,
Investigators who attend sacrament meeting, Lessons taught to
investigators with a member present, Other lessons taught, Progressing
investigators, Referrals received and contacted, New investigators,
Lessons taught to recent converts and less-active members, and Service.
Which I always thought was a lot, and now there are only, Investigators
baptized and confirmed, Investigators with a baptismal date,
Investigators who attend sacrament meeting, and New investigators, so
first off that is a big change! And then they changed our daily schedule,
made it more open, for the Holy Ghost to lead us and to Guide us, to
where we really need to be! I lover the fact the they changed the it all
up, because it makes it more on us to change the lives of others, and
not so much on a fixed schedule, it gives us more responsibility to do
our job! Other then that he goes on to tell us about the way of life and
who we are, and how cool we are to be missionaries. It was a really
long meeting but I enjoyed every moment of it!
Then
we went on exchanges, Elder Floyd to LSU and I got Elder Wilson here in
Tiger Bend, it's always fun and I love to see how other missionaries
work because you get to see other ways to talk to people and to teach
the people here in BR! So Wilson came out with me and he has been in New
Orleans, the whole time he's been out,(on him mission) until he moved
up here to LSU, and it was funny to see him in Baton Rouge. We went
tracking and he was expecting people to be out and about walking around
and siting on the porch just hanging out, but the difference between
Baton Rouge and New Orleans, is people here have jobs, and so no one is
ever home, so I just thought it was funny, to see the difference!
So
there is this family we are working with, and we were over there the
other day for dinner/lesson, and we were trying to help one of the kids
with his homework, and he is like 10 years old, and wow, he reminds
me... well, of ME! It's funny because he had a long day at school and
then he went right to baseball practice, then home for dinner and
now it's like 8-ish and he's asked to do his homework. HE does not have
much left in him to do his homework, just like I would be! But Elder Floyd
sits down with him to start his homework, and it only like 20 math
problems, not that a big of deal because this kid is smart and I know he
can do them all real fast. So he gets started and he is working well
and getting them done, he gets distracted here and there but he doing
really well, and then he comes to the last problem, and this problem is a
little bigger then the last 19 and he has a little beak down, he said
that we were doing this one wrong, and that we don't understand, and that
we don't know, (we knew the answer) but he did not want to put in the
little extra effort into finish this last problem because all he sees is
the wrong way, and he does not want to listen to our way. And wow this
hit me the other night, we as people do this all the time we get worn
out and we get fed up with life, and we don't see any way to get thru
it all, but it's funny because there is someone that has all the answers!
And He's is waiting to help us if we are willing to listen to his
Answer!
So the start of this week was kinda
crazy yesterday we were on tornado watch all morning, it was raining
harder then I have ever seen it, and once we stepped outside it was like
85 and blue sky's, it kinda makes me mad how fast the weather can change
down here, but it's ok I guess!
Anyway love you all hope you have a good week.
Love Elder Gordon
